Heritage Bank of the Ozarks: A Legacy of Neighbors Serving Neighbors
A group of locals wanted to build a bank for Lebanon and Laclede County. They wanted to build your bank. Together, we succeeded.
Then
2002
Early in 2002, Bill Lewis and a group of local businesspeople recognized a need and began discussing the possibility of opening an independent community bank.
Knowing they'd be investing their own hard-earned dollars to provide capital strength for this bank, these people made up their minds that "their" bank would not be opened for the purpose of quickly building market share and then selling to the highest bidder. Rather, "their" bank would remain locally owned to serve Lebanon and Laclede County; would gather local deposits by offering above-average interest rates; then, loan those dollars to local borrowers who would further improve the Lebanon and Laclede County area through their own labor and investments.
A Vision Rooted in Community
"Their" bank would be owned and managed by people with strong ties to this community, who lived and worked in this community, who held the values that made the Lebanon and Laclede County area vibrant and strong. "Their" bank would be named Heritage Bank of the Ozarks to reflect their local heritage, and the character and commitment important to the shareholders, directors, officers, and staff members who would serve its customers for the present and for years to come.

Heritage Bank of the Ozarks Opens Its Doors in Lebanon
Lewis and his dedicated team of local investors received a de novo charter to start Heritage Bank. And on September 22, 2003, Heritage Bank of the Ozarks officially opened for business in Lebanon.

Kim Light Joins Heritage Bank
In 2011, current Heritage Bank CEO Kim Light joined the team, assuming a leadership role. A longtime friend and former colleague of Lewis, Light shared the same passion and vision for “neighbors serving neighbors.”

Heritage Bank Adds Camdenton Branch
With the vision of implementing the bank’s ideals and community values in Camden County and the surrounding lake area, Heritage Bank added its second location opening a branch in Camdenton on November 19, 2013.
“We really started growing kind of at the expense of some of our local competitors. They had become less and less ‘neighbors serving neighbors,’ while we stayed true to our mission. And so we took off on a growth spurt.” – Kim Light, Heritage Bank CEO

Heritage Bank Acquires Branch in Plato
On November 16, 2020, Heritage Bank opened its third location following the acquisition of a bank branch in the small, rural town of Plato in Texas County – an area with a significant need for banking services.
“The parent bank was shutting down the branch in Plato, which left that customer base with no banks within 45 miles in any direction. We saw an opportunity to buy that branch rather than see it close, so the people of Plato would have access to banking services … because they’re our Neighbors, too.” - Kim Light, Heritage Bank CEO

The ‘Bank of Choice’
Today, Heritage Bank holds a strong position and reputation in the South Central Missouri banking landscape. It has earned a well-deserved status as a cornerstone of the communities it serves, a sentiment echoed by its Neighbors.
“We see it on social media all the time, posts like: ‘I’m moving into the Lebanon area. Where should I bank?’ And overwhelmingly, we are the bank of choice.” – Kim Light, Heritage Bank CEO
